Coming Up
Our pastor writes a weekly email to the congregation, sharing news and information about worship on Sunday, including links to read and study the Scripture in advance, as well as devotional thoughts and reflections to help prepare us for worship.  You can read those below, and also sign up to receive the emails in your inbox on Fridays.

    Dear FUMC Family,

As I write this morning, I’m just finishing my sermon for Sunday. I’m really looking forward to our time together. We’re continuing our series on Means of Grace and this week we’ll talk about and experience Holy Communion together, what John Wesley called the “grand channel” of God’s grace, the way we come as close as possible in this life to the love, power and presence of Christ.

I love the way American theologian John Nevin describes Holy Communion. He says that Holy Communion “embodies the actual presence of the grace…and this grace is not simply the promise of God on which we are encouraged to rely, but the very life of the Lord Jesus Christ himself. We commune, in the Lord’s Supper, not only with the divine promise , not only with the thought of Christ, not only with the remembrance simply of what he has done and suffered for us, not only with the lively sense of his all-sufficient, all-glorious salvation; but with the living Savior himself, in the fullness of his glorified person, made present to us by the power of the Holy Spirit.” This is stunning! When we gather around the table on Sunday, receiving the bread and sharing the cup, we are communing with the living Christ himself!

I hope you can join us on Sunday as we share in this grace together, and consider the difference an encounter with the living Christ at the table can make in our lives. Join us at either 8:30 or 11:00, and be sure to invite a friend or neighbor to join you!

Don’t forget, this Sunday is the deadline to order pine needles from our men and youth. You can click here to order online. And also, plan now to join us this Wednesday, March 7, for our next Experience Grace Workshop on Holy Communion. We’ll meet at 7:00 p.m. in Carpenter Hall.

I hope you have a great weekend. And I hope to see you all on Sunday!

    In Christ,

P.S. Remember, we’re collecting canned goods to benefit the Belmont Community Organization throughout Lent. Our youth will be delivering and sorting the canned goods on March 25. As you shop for groceries this weekend, remember your neighbors in need. Bring your donations to the foot of our Lenten cross. This is a great way to live our mission!
